National Citizen Service

We have designed a bespoke hands on course of activities for the NCS scheme based around medicine, health and sport. Participants can even use the activities as part of the community project that makes up the scheme. The parts below can be used all together or individually.

Part 1 – Classroom Casualty

Use real medical equipment to see how the body works and how it responds to drugs an injury by monitoring Stan the patient simulator. They will also meet Andy the injection arm and use a real needle to take fake blood!

Part 2 – Health MOT

Monitor and test basic health with blood pressure machines, spirometers to measure lung volume and lung age in smokers and take part in age progression photography to see what smoking, UV sunlight and obesity will do to their looks when they are 72!

Part 2 – Sports Hall Science / Hi-Definition Fitness

Participants will be able to monitor their strength, dance on dance mats, record the reaction times, see how high they can jump, test hand eye coordination and much more with high tech sports science equipment.

Part 3 – Basic First Aid

This session covers all the basics including CPR, burns, bleeds, breaks and choking. Participants can also use our first aid make up to make it more realistic!

The activities can be run over a one or several days to numerous groups in your region. We can also provide support and resources for if they decide to create a community project based on our activities.

Some ideas for a community project include:

  • Community Games in support of the 2012 games using our sports science equipment
  • Health MOT check for local residents using our health equipment on a stall in a local place such as a supermarket
  • Free first aid for kids using the skills and knowledge gained from our course.
